Hope Tops MIAA All-Sports Standings

Hope College tops the all-sports standings in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) through the fall sports season.

The MIAA presents separate awards for the best cumulative finish in men's and women's sports as well as an award for the best cumulative finish in all league sports (men and women). The separate awards are known as the Men's All-Sports Award and the Women's All-Sports Award while the cumulative award is known as the Commissioner's Cup.

Hope tops the standings in the Commissioner's Cup standings and is in first place in the Men's All-Sports standings. Albion leads the Women's All-Sports standings while Hope is in second place.

The standings after the Fall season which consisted of eight sports are:

Commissioner's Cup Standings: 1. Hope 84, 2. Albion 68, 3. Calvin 66, 4. Alma 56, 4. Kalamazoo 56, 6. Adrian 24, 7. Olivet 22.

Men's All-Sports Standings: 1. Hope 42, 2. Alma 30, 3. Calvin 28, 4. Kalamazoo 24, 5. Albion 22, 6. Olivet 14, 7. Adrian 8

Women's All-Sports Standings: 1. Albion 46, 2. Hope 42, 3. Calvin 38, 4. Kalamazoo 32, 5. Alma 26, 6. Adrian, 6. Saint Mary's 16, 8. Olivet 8.

The final standings for the all-sports awards will be determined on the basis of each college's standings in eight of nine sports for men and eight of nine sports for women. These point-totals will be added together to determine the winner of the Commissioners' Cup.

The standings after the fall season are based on all four sports for men and women.

Hope won fall sports championships in football, men's golf and volleyball. The women's golf and men's cross country teams finished second; the men's soccer and women's cross country teams were third and the women's soccer team ended fifth.

The Commissioner's Cup (MIAA All-Sports Award) has been presented since 1934-35. Hope has won the award a league-leading 22 times followed by Albion 14, Kalamazoo 13, Calvin 8 and Alma 5.

In 1999/2000, Calvin won the Commissioner's Cup and the Men's All-Sports Award while Hope won the Women's All-Sports Award.
