Honor Band to Perform

Hope College will host this year's
Michigan Intercollegiate Honors Band on Saturday, Feb. 3, at
8 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.

The public is invited. Admission is free.


The musical talents of eight Michigan colleges and
universities combine for a performance that will feature
works by Bernstein, Grainger, Ives, Wagner and Hindemith.


The colleges participating in this annual event are Adrian,
Albion, Alma, Calvin, Cornerstone, Grand Valley, Hope and
Spring Arbor.


The first Michigan Intercollegiate Honor Band
event was held in 1972.


This year, the concert will be conducted by James
Tapia, associate director of bands at the University of


The 13 Hope students who will be performing in the band are: sophomore Jeremy Davis of Egan, Ill., bass clarinet; senior Jody Farrey of Belvidere, Ill., trumpet; sophomore Ben Fedak of Albany, N.Y., percussion; senior Kelly Getman of South Haven, clarinet; freshman Grant Gould of Cass City, percussion; junior Sarah Herman of Sylvania, Ohio, oboe/English horn; senior Tracy Miller of Gurnee, Ill., clarinet; senior Doug Mulder of Holland, trombone; junior Jessica Schulte of Clarkston, flute; junior Piper Spratt of Kalamazoo, clarinet; freshman Chris Thibault of Grand Blanc, bassoon; freshman Paul Wesselink of Grand Rapids, trombone; and senior Laurie Zeller of Waterford, horn.
