Varnum, Riddering, Schmidt and Howlett LLP has become the most recent Lakeshore business to pledge its support to Hope College's new3,500-seat DeVos Fieldhouse with a financial commitment of $8,500 for the project. A combination of funds from the Varnum law firm and individual partners, the $8,500 pledge is a continuation of the commitment to corporate giving that Varnum has established within the Lakeshore community.
"Varnum has a long-standing tradition of giving back to the communities in which we live and work. The Lakeshore Community in particular is a strong area of growth for West Michigan and we're committed to supporting its economic and cultural development efforts," said William J. Lawrence III, managing partner at Varnum.
The DeVos Fieldhouse will benefit both Hope College and the Holland community by providing a first-class venue for sporting, entertainment, and community events.
Varnum has also sponsored Lakeshore cultural events including annual contributions to the Tulipanes Film Festival, a festival celebrating Latino success through music, art and film in Holland and to the Waterfront Film Festival in Saugatuck, which showcases independent feature films and short movies. As part of the firm's commitment to diversity, Varnum contributed to the Ottawa Area Summit on Racism and has promoted local economic growth by contributing to the Northwest Ottawa County Economic Development Corporation's FastTrac program, an entrepreneurial training program for small businesses. Other contributions in the last two years have included donations to the Tri-Cities Area United Way Campaign, the Holland Historical Trust, which promotes historical building restoration efforts, the Hope Scholarship Fund and the Grand Haven Christian Schools.
