All-Region Honors in Football

Two Hope players have been named to the All-North Region team by Don Hansen's Weekly Football Gazette.

Senior Phil Butler of Howard City, Mich. (Lake County HS) has been named the second team quarterback while senior Joel Verschueren of Muskegon, Mich. (Reeths Puffer HS) was voted a third team receiver.

The All-North Region team consists of players from NCAA Division III colleges in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio and Wisconsin.

Butler was voted the most valuable offensive player in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) in leading the Flying Dutchmen to a league championship and berth in the NCAA playoffs. He rewrote the Hope recordbook for single game, season and career passing.

Verschueren, the leading vote-getter among All-MIAA receiver candidates, caught a school-record 17 touchdown passes.
