Hope Musical Collage in Allendale

Hope College music students will be performing on Friday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the Allendale Second Christian Reformed Church.

The performance is part of the Allendale Cultural Enrichment Series.

The first half of the show will feature small ensembles and soloists, and the Hope College Symphonette will perform in the second half.

The men's a capella ensemble, 12th Street Harmony will sing in the first half, and there will also be a selection from Seymour Barab's opera, "Little Red Riding Hood." A wind ensemble has also been selected to perform.

The Symphonette's pieces include Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Symphony No. 26 in E flat major K.184," Ottorino Respighi's "Ancient Dances and Airs for Lute and Strings (1931)" and the "Concerto No. 2 in f minor for Piano and Orchestra Op. 21" by Frederic Chopin featuring pianist Lora Clark Kolean.

The Symphonette is selected each year from the larger 75-member college symphony orchestra . The members have made numerous radio and television appearances and presented children's and youth concerts in addition to the group's series of formal concerts.

The Symphonette has also appeared on the nationally televised "Hour of Power" from Garden Grove Church in California and its annual tour has taken the Symphonette from coast to coast in the U.S. as well as two Provinces in Canada, the British Isles, six countries in Europe, and to Australia and New Zealand.

Tickets for the concert are $15 for adults, $12 for senior citizens and $10 for students, and are available at the Allendale Township office and Family Fare of Allendale. Ticket sales at the door will start at 7 p.m., if tickets are still available.
