Hope Piano Students Participating in Master Class

John Donkersloot and Sally VanderPloeg of HopeCollege are among six West Michigan advanced piano students participating in a master class with internationally acclaimed Russian pianist Yuri Rozum on Tuesday, May 5.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, located at 508 Franklin in Grand Haven.

The public is invited to observe.  Admission is free.

The master class is part of the "Russian Festival and Gala" organized by the West Shore Symphony Orchestra and featuring events from Wednesday, April 29, through Saturday, May 9.  The class will feature the music of Russian composers.

Donkersloot is a junior from Zeeland and is a 2007 graduate of ZeelandEastHigh School, and will perform Rachmaninoff's "Prelude in B Flat Major, Op. 32, No. 2."  VanderPloeg is a senior from Holland and is a 2006 graduate of HollandChristianHigh School, and will perform Rachmaninoff's "Etude-Tableau in E Flat minor, Op. 39, No. 5."  Both Donkersloot and VanderPloeg are students of Dr. Andrew Le, assistant professor of music.
