Two sophomore members of the Hope College club lacrosse team have been named All-Americans by the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA).
Eric Weber of Ann Arbor (Pioneer HS) has been named to the All-America first team while Duncan Wierengo of East Grand Rapids (East Grand Rapids HS) received second team recognition.
Lacrosse is a long established club sport at Hope College. This year's team posted a 9-3 record and advanced to the semi-finals of the conference tournament in their first-ever appearance.
Weber is being recognized as one of the top attackmen in the nation. He scored 77 goals to lead the nation in both points-per-game (8.273) and goals-per-game (7.0). He scooped up a team-high 137 ground balls on the year as well.
"Eric is an exceptional finisher around the cage and his intensity is unmatched. He would also be the first to credit his linemates, Allen Campbell and Dillon Fink for his scoring success." said coach Mike Schanhals.
Wierengo was recognized as a Long Stick Midfielder. He had 68 ground balls, eight assists, and one goal on the season.
"Duncan has the ability to change a game with his skills and athleticism. His tenacity and ball handling ability allow us to push our transition game and possess the ball on offense." said coach Schanhals.
