For the second year in-a-row the Hope women's basketball team is among 25 NCAA Division III teams being honored nationally for academics.
The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) has announced its Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll for NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, DCAA Division III, NAIA and Junior/Community colleges.
The Flying Dutch ranked 18th in Division III for having the highest grade point average (GPA) for the 2009-10 season based upon nominations submitted by WBCA-member coaches. There are 425 women's basketball teams in Division III.
Hope has the distinction of being the only Division III team to be ranked in both the WBCA Poll and the Academic Honor Roll.
The Flying Dutch, coached by Brian Morehouse, had a cumulative 3.437 grade point average. The year before Hope maintained a 3.447 GPA for achieve Honor Roll distinction for the first time.
Carnegie-Mellon University, Pa. leads this year's list with a 3.616 grand point average. Hope is the only MIAA team to be named to the Honor Roll.
Hope was ranked second in the final WBCA poll for 09-10 after finishing runnerup in the NCAA Division III tournament. The Flying Dutch posted a 32-2 record.
Earlier this month the Flying Dutch were awarded an MIAA Team GPA Award for a fourth consecutive year.
