Ensemble Chaconne to Perform on Monday, Nov. 8

Ensemble Chaconne will be performing at Hope College on Monday, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Wichers Auditorium of Nykerk Hall of Music.

Celebrating its 25th season in 2010-11, Ensemble Chaconne is a period-instrument trio devoted to vivid, historically-informed performance of music from the 16th through the 18th centuries. Since 1985, the group has concertized widely, acclaimed for compelling and dynamic artistry. Music Web International hailed the ensemble's "vitality and character...style and verve," while "The Portland Press Herald" praised the group's "virtuosity, balance and charm."

Ensemble Chaconne presents period-instrument performances of music from Renaissance and Baroque Europe. Repertoire ranges from well-known masterpieces to recently discovered works.

The ensemble consists of Peter H. Bloom (Renaissance and Baroque flutes), Carol Lewis (viola da gamba) and Olav Chris Henriksen (lute, theorbo and early guitar).  The three musicians have performed together since 1985, while also appearing in solo recitals and concertizing widely with other ensembles.

The group has appeared at venues including Atlanta's Spivey Hall; The Bach Festival Society of Winter Park, Fla.; Boston's Jordan Hall; Kenyon College; University of North Carolina at Charlotte; the Edison Theatre in St. Louis; BowdoinCollege; and others. Ensemble Chaconne was chosen for featured concerts at the R oyal Shakespeare Company's 2006 residency project at DavidsonCollege, and at the National Meeting of the American Musicological Society in Columbus, Ohio. Museums including Boston's Museum of Fine Arts and the Peabody Essex Museum have commissioned the group to perform themed programs for major exhibition openings.

Ensemble Chaconne is a member of the Early Music America Touring Roster, the New England States Touring Program, the Massachusetts Cultural Council Performing and Touring Roster, and the South Carolina Arts Commission's Artists-in-Education Roster.
