Flying Dutch Volleyball Ranked in Pre-Season AVCA Poll

The Flying Dutch are again included among the nation's elite NCAA Division III volleyball programs according to a pre-season poll by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Coming off an MIAA co-championship season, coach Becky Schmidt's Flying Dutch are ranked 15th in the national poll. The Flying Dutch were ranked 10th in the final 2010 national poll.

Rival Calvin, the defending Division III national champion, is the top-ranked team in the pre-season poll. A year ago Hope defeated Calvin in two of their three matches. Both qualified for the NCAA championships with Calvin going all the way.

The Flying Dutch begin their pre-season preparations on Monday, Aug. 22. The season begins with a Labor Day weekend tournament at Mt. Union College in Ohio. The home opener will be a league match against Alma on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
