Traveling Exhibition: Manifold Greatness

Repeats every day until Fri Mar 30 2012 .
March 02, 2012 (All day)
Van Wylen Library, 53 Graves Place

The title Manifold Greatness, referring to the multifaceted or "manifold" influence of this landmark book, is taken from the 1611 Bible’s dedication to King James, which begins, "Great and manifold were the blessings" when God made James the king of England.

Printed in 1611, the King James Bible became the most influential English translation of the Bible and one of the most widely read books in the world. This exhibit takes a look at the dramatic history of the King James Bible, what we know about the scholars who translated it, and how it has continued to influence literature, culture, and society for over 400 years – from Martin Luther King’s "I have a dream" speech to the words of Handel's Messiah.

The Manifold Greatness traveling exhibit is hosted at the Hope College Van Wylen Library with programming sponsored by the Van Wylen Library, Western Theological Seminary Beardslee Library and the Herrick District Library.

The exhibit is open during regular library hours March 2-15 and March 24-30, and spring break hours March 16-23. If you are coming in a large group, please call 616-395-7790 to make arrangements.
