Hope College will welcome alumni who will be returning to campus for their reunions this weekend (April 26-27).
In addition to multiple reunions (for the classes of 1963, 1968, 1973, 1978 and 1983), highlights will include:
- A ceremony Saturday at 1 p.m. at Dimnent Memorial Chapel welcoming members of the Class of 1963 into the “Fifty Year Circle” comprised of alumni of 50 or more years ago;
- A ceremony Saturday at 2:30 p.m. to celebrate the new “Hope College” sign installed on the front lawn of the DeVos Fieldhouse at Fairbanks Avenue at Eighth Street, a project initiated by the college’s Class of 1956 during the group’s 50-year reunion in 2006;
- A banquet Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Haworth Inn and Conference Center that will feature recognition of three alumni. The Hope College Alumni Association will present Distinguished Alumni Awards to J. Scott Carpenter, a member of the Class of 1987 from Alexandria, Va., and Joel Schoon-Tanis, a member of the Class of 1989 from Holland. The association will present a Meritorious Service Award to Dr. James Boelkins, a member of the Class of 1966 from Jenison.
