The Jazz Arts Collective, Contemporary Ensemble and Mainstream Ensemble, featuring the music of Chuck Owen, will perform in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.

In addition to participating in the concert, Owen, who is a Guggenheim Composition recipient, will take part in two discussions and an open rehearsal earlier in the day on Tuesday, Oct. 8.  He will participate in “Jazz Composition” at 8 a.m. and “River Runs” at 3 p.m., each in Wichers Auditorium of Nykerk Hall of Music.  The open rehearsal, which will also include the Jazz Arts Collective, will take place at noon in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.

The public is invited to all of the events.  Admission is free.

Owen is professor of jazz studies at the University of South Florida, where he also serves as the founding director of the USF Center for Jazz Composition.  He is a nationally respected educator, having established and developed USF’s acclaimed jazz program.  He is also recognized equally for his unique compositional voice, which is steeped thoroughly in the jazz tradition but often draws on a diverse array of additional influences – from contemporary classical and American folk/roots music to Latin styles, funk/hip-hop, and even country.
