Here are examples of the larval stages of various arthropods
Well-developed head capsule; 3 pairs of thoracic, true (jointed) legs only: mostly Order Coleoptera	Well-developed head capsule; one or more pairs of abdominal "prolegs" in addition to thoracic true legs: mostly Order Lepidoptera
No legs whatsoever: usually Order Diptera	One or two pairs of legs per segment: NOT A LARVA!
Many segmented, but without legs: NOT A LARVA!
