Summer Science and More Camps 2014

Hope College is offering exciting opportunities this summer for students to explore the wonderful world of science and more. The programs will feature “hands-on” interactive investigations designed to teach scientific concepts in a FUN yet challenging way as well as hands-on, skill and technique building experiences in the non-science camps. Enrollment grade is the grade they will enter Fall ‘14. You may register one grade either side of grades 1-10 if there is space available.  For questions, e-mail us at sciencecamp@hope.edu or contact us by phone (616) 395-7628

Partial Scholarships (up to 50%) are available for Hope College Science and More Camps!!!  Gentex, thanks again for supporting families and science education in West Michigan; and to the NASD at Hope College for investing in our future scientists.  Within one week of registration, please supply Science Camps with a letter from your child's school stating that they receive a free/reduced lunch.  If this information is not available, please contact the camp office by phone or email.  Only one scholarship request per camper, please. Sorry, scholarships are not available for Googenius camps.

Contributions can now be given on the website. If you or your company are currently blessed and can help provide assistance for other families, your generosity would be greatly appreciated...100% of your donation will go to a camper in need. Hope College is a 501.c3 institution, so your contribution may be tax deductible at the Federal level and may also be a tax credit at the State level.

Camp Costs May Be Tax Deductible as an educational or child care expense.  Please contact your tax professional to determine if you are eligible.

The Snack Shack Is Back...There will be a snack break in the middle of each camp.  Campers may bring their own snacks or purchase from the Snack Shack!   Many healthy options are available.

Art 2D & 3D II  - ALL NEW
This camp takes old favorites and combines them with new projects while exploring the elements and principles of 2D and 3D art through the mediums of watercolor, graphite, colored pencils, wood, clay and metals. (Back to Camp Schedule)

Classic Cartooning 
A Googenius Camp

Learn the basics of cartoon strip and panel development. Create characters, add expressions and learn inking techniques. A treasury will be assembled at the end of the class. Returnees will be challenged. (Back to Camp Schedule)

Club Vet
Explore the exciting world of animal science and care. If you want to own a pet, be a vet or work/volunteer in a pet related job, then definitely come learn about animal habitats, nutrition and health care. (Back to Camp Schedule)

Club Vet Safari
Explore the awesome world of animals as we expand our study of our furry, feathered and scaled friends across the globe (think Lion King or Madagascar).   If you’ve wanted to be a Safari Guide, Vet, Zookeeper or start your own pet business…this is the camp for you! (Back to Camp Schedule)

Comics, Manga & Graphic Novels 
A Googenius Camp 

Meets Monday-Friday
Hone your graphic story telling skills and create a collective graphic novel. Comic book, manga and basic graphic novel illustrations highlighted.  Returnees welcome for more advanced exercises and a final project. (Back to Camp Schedule)

Crazy Chemistry
Solids, liquids and gasses-oh my.  Polymers, pH and density-no lie.  Come explore chemistry like never before with hands-on, exciting experiments and activities designed to satisfy both blooming and budding scientists.  Who doesn’t like liquid nitrogen, dry ice, alka seltzer rockets, flubber and so much more? Creepy Crawlies
Hakuna Matata is the theme for this camp as we explore the awesome world of bugs from butterflies to beetles, spiders to wasps and things in between.

How do modern day detectives put the pieces of crime scene puzzles together? Find out the tricks and high-tech gadgets used as you solve an all-new crime.  Topics covered are:  Fingerprinting, DNA analysis, blood typing and more. (Back to Camp Schedule)

Disgusting Dissection
Discover animals from the inside out.  Apply dissection techniques to organisms such as rats, earthworms, crayfish, and cow eyes, hearts and lungs. (Back to Camp Schedule)

Fantastic Flight

Lego I
Welcome to the exciting world of Lego Robotics, NXT style. Get an introduction to machines, robot construction, programming and teamwork as your group builds robots and completes challenges. (Back to Camp Schedule)

 Lego 1.5 
This camp will build a different project each day and modify an existing program. Teamwork/creativity are not as emphasized, but students will work in pairs (3’s if they want). (Back to Camp Schedule)

Lego II 
This camp is a continuation of the fundamentals of the NXT system (Lego I) with an increased emphasis on teamwork and problem solving.  All new robots and challenges will be used. (Back to Camp Schedule)

Lunar Mission Control – ALL NEW

Lunar Mission Inventions – ALL NEW
