Ayannah Abiade
Major: Communication, Spanish
Class of 2009

What do you want to do after college?
I'm hoping to go into public relations. I would like to be the face of a company and be in charge of speaking to the public and the media. I am also majoring in Spanish, and so I would like to integrate my two studies in my career.

How have communication classes helped you prepare for your future?
Many classes have been worthwhile. For example, analytic skills was very helpful because it teaches you how to analyze arguments and present your arguments in a strong, valid, and ethical way.

What activities are you involved in at Hope?
I participated in Nykerk as the orator which was a great opportunity for me to test my speaking ability in front of hundreds of people. Thanks to that opportunity combined with the Public Presentations class, I really have become comfortable speaking in front of people.

What is unique about Hope's communication professors?
The professors are all very approachable. They are willing to talk about any academic issues as well as personal matters when necessary. When I was preparing for Nykerk oration, I met with my public presentations professor to brainstorm ideas on topics as well as discuss the moral significance that my message would bring.
