Ms. Powell, a Michigan native, began her professional performing career with the Boston Repertory Ballet. From there she continued her career with a variety of companies such as Ballet Michigan, Ohio Ballet, Ballet der Stadichen Buhnun (Frankfurt Ballet), North Atlantic Ballet, Minnesota Dance Theater, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company and Aerial Dance Theater directed by Linda Graham and Steven Iannacone. Julie’s interest in both classical and contemporary work has allowed her the opportunity to work with and learn from outstanding directors, teachers and choreographers throughout the United States and Europe. For the past 20 years, Julie has used her years of experience towards teaching, directing, choreographing and furthering the development of dance in West Michigan. Currently, Julie is the Dance Director for Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, Director of Lakeshore Dance Muskegon and recently developed “KICKIN IT” a community based dance outreach program. She also serves on the board of directors for the Michigan Dance Council.

Dance Philosophy
“ I believe an education in dance is really an opportunity to learn more about ourselves, how we work, how we learn, our strengths, our weaknesses. I respect the development of each dancer and recognize that developing young artists contributes to our arts community as a collective whole.”
