To develop the student's leadership potential and business professionalism through experiences including trips to large metropolitan areas, meaningful conversations with professionals in a variety of industries, and a commitment to continuous learning.

Who Are the Bakers?

The George F. Baker Scholars are all upper-class students studying economics, management or accounting. The students are chosen by a panel of local business professionals with a wide range of experience in several different industries. The panel evaluates the applicants through an extensive application process and a series of rigorous interviews. The selected Baker Scholars are chosen because of their academic excellence, leadership potential, and their general interest in the business world.

The purpose of the George F. Baker Scholars Program at Hope College is to enhance students’ business education with mentored experiences of discovery beyond the classroom. Through conversations with business leaders and educational excursions to the centers of world commerce, the program enables Baker Scholars to accelerate their assumption of leadership roles in business and society upon graduation.

The focus of the Baker Scholar's program is to enhance the student's future career through exposure to business situations outside of the classroom. Through this experiential learning opportunity, the Bakers will have a broader context of the possibilities in the real world of business.
