"Real World" Investigative Project

There are many opportunities to use the economic tools developed in microeconomics to interpret and understand economic events around us.  In order to earn bonus points toward the calculation of the semester grade, a student may engage in an investigative project.  This project will require the student to:
    a)    describe an economic even in the Holland area
    b)    observe and compile data about the economic event
    c)    analyze and interpret these observations using microeconomic tools of analysis.

Some examples of economic events are:
    1)    differences in the price of the same product in several different stores at a given point in time.
    2)    changes in the price of a particular product over a period of time.
    3)    differences in wages paid for a particular job or skill in different firms.
    4)    the uses of coupons to purchase a product at a discounted price.
    5)    differences in the prices consumers would be willing to pay for a particular good or service.

The report must be presented in word-processed form.

Approval for the project must be granted by Professor Heisler no later than February 14.

The project must be turned in no later than April 9.

The project is worth a maximum of 20 points.
