FAQs about the Management Major
What has NOT changed about the management major?
- All majors take MATH 210 OR MATH 311 & 312
- All majors take ECON 211 and 212
- All majors take a 3 or 4 credit elective
approved by the department
What are the changes?
- MGMT 100 (2 cr) has been replaced by MGMT 150 (2 cr); one of
these classes is required for the management major.
- MGMT 200 (4 cr)
has been replaced by MGMT 222 (4 cr); one of these classes is required
for the management major.
- MGMT majors will take both ACCT 221 and
ACCT 222 for 3 credits—the
labs for these classes are required only for accounting majors and minors.
Functional pairings have been dropped as requirements. They will not
be offered after the 2007-2008 academic year.
- MGMT 400 (2 cr) will not
be offered after the 2007-2008 academic year; MGMT 401 (4 cr) will
be offered after the 2007-2008 academic year.
- 43-46 credits are required
for the management major.
How do these changes affect me?
- If you are a management major who plans to complete your degree
in the 2007-2008 academic year, you should complete your management
major by following the “old
major” requirements.
- If you are a management major who plans to complete your degree
after summer 2008, you may follow the “transitional
major” requirements
OR the “new
major” requirements.
- Important Notes
- MGMT 400 (2 cr) and the functional pairings will not be offered
after the 2007-2008 academic year. If you’ve not taken any of the “old” pairings,
you will be better served by following the “new” major.
Consult an advisor in Management Dept. if you have questions.
- If you think you may be an accounting major or minor, you
should take the labs for ACCT 221 and ACCT 222 since these
are required for an accounting
major and minor.
- If you’ve taken no management classes, you should follow the “new” major.
- If you’ve only taken Mgmt 100 or Mgmt 100 + Mgmt 200
and are a rising senior, you should follow the old major.
- If you’ve only taken Mgmt 100 or Mgmt 100 + Mgmt 200 and are
a rising junior, you may follow the “transitional” or the
new major. Make sure you get a department advisor to work out the program
that’s best for you.
- Consult faculty in the Management Department with any questions.
