MGMT 352: Human Resource Management


Managing is all about working with and through other people. Whether you are considering Human Resources as a profession or just want to learn more about effectively managing people within an organization, this course is for you. We will explore the various tasks of Human Resource Management – staffing, compensation and benefits, training and development, and employee relations – as well as discuss the values and strategies that form organizational policies and practices regarding employees.
Course Description: A study of the laws, policies, procedures and practices related to the management of people within an organization. Designed to address knowledge all managers should possess regarding effective management of an organization’s human resources and as an introduction to the field for those students considering Human Resource Management as a profession. This class is paired with Economics 403 (Labor Economics) and students must be enrolled in both classes unless you have written permission from the instructor.


Course Objectives:


1. Learn the basic tasks of human resource management and the laws governing their implementation.
2. Explore the practices commonly used to manage and develop the human potential of an organization.
3. Begin to develop a personal philosophy regarding human resource strategy.
