Through a variety of readings and in-class discussion, this class explores "classic" writings on management as well as the topics of business ethics and leadership. As we explore various ethical issues that confront working people, students will be challenged to think about the role of business in society. A major portion of the work for this course is the preparation and presentation of a research paper on a topic of choice relating to managing in the 21st century.

"
I loved this class! It made me think about aspects of business that I'd just
taken for granted. I especially liked reading about the different views of
leadership."
"
Some of the readings were long and pretty hard to understand, but I guess at
least I can tell people I read some famous authors. Class discussion was helpful
in understanding what they were trying to say."
“I learned a lot from this class and really enjoyed it. I had never thought
about social responsibility as it relates to businesses before and found
many ideas that I hope to take with me in the workplace. This class has
changed the way I will search for a job.”
“I enjoyed this class very much. I would say that it has been the most
beneficial class I participated in at Hope College. It challenged me
to think and I
realized what things are most important.”
