REGISTRATION FOR SUBSTITUTE TEACHING |
Once you have completed five weeks in your full-time student
teaching placement, you will be eligible to substitute teach for up
to three
days in your
placement. Most districts pay student teachers for subbing.
In order to substitute teach, you
will need to be registered as a substitute
teacher in your district by participating
in a training session through a group called Professional Educational
Services Group (PESG).
Prior to one of the Student Teaching Seminar sessions (date will be announced),
PESG will
be presenting their registration/training/informational session on Hope's campus. IF
YOU ARE PLANNING TO SUBSTITUTE TEACH DURING YOUR STUDENT TEACHING PLACEMENT OR
AT THE COMPLETION OF
YOUR STUDENT TEACHING EXPERIENCE AND
HAVE NOT REGISTERED PREVIOUSLY WITH PESG, YOU MUST ATTEND
THIS SESSION (with the exception of Grand Haven placements).
Please follow the instructions below as you must come to the meeting
with certain training modules completed and required materials in hand. |
1. First, go to the PESG website: www.subpass.com.
2. Then go to the "Districts" tab.
3. Go down the list of counties on the right side of the page and click on the
county where you are currently student teaching. For most of you this will be
either Ottawa, Kent or Allegan county. (Saugatuck and Hamilton are considered
to be part of Ottawa County even though they are located in Allegan County.)
4. Find the button "Enrollment Requirements & Forms" and click
on that.
5. Then look at the options in the left column and click on "PESG Requirements."
6. You are now going to click through the 6 items on this list and complete the
steps in each part.
|
a) "Completed Employment Packet" and "Two Forms
of Legal Identification"-Fill out ALL of the forms. Determine
which TWO forms of ID you will bring to the PESG meeting. Please
note that you cannot bring a drivers license and a Hope ID as
your two forms of ID. You may bring any one of the options below:

(Ottawa County only=no fee, Allegan County=$10.00, Kent County=$15.00)

seal on it. A Degree Evaluation will not be sufficient. You may go to the Registrar's
website and print off a Transcript Request Form. Complete the form and either
bring it to the Registrar's office or FAX it to them at 616-395-7680. Allow 48
hours for processing.
d) Fingerprinting will already be completed, so there's nothing to do on this.
e) Online requirements- go to the GCN website to complete all of the training
modules (with the exception of "Food Safety") at www.gcn1.net.
The steps are as follows:
|
-- Click on the "Login"
-- Step 1: type "PESG"
-- Step 2: Skip
-- Click on "create a personal id"
-- Step 3: read instructions and create a personal id.

at the top of the page. Find the appropriate county, click on that
and then the "Enrollment
Requirements and Forms" button. Go to the orange link on the left that says "District
Specific Requirements" and click on that. Check to see that your district
comes up under the "Certified Teachers" section.
3. Now go to the "Enroll" tab at the top of the page, read through
that page and then click the "Start Application Process" at the bottom
of the page. At the end of the enrollment page you will be prompted to select
the County (Ottawa) and the
