AUTHENTIC FIELD EXPERIENCES

A hallmark of the Hope College Teacher Education Program is the extensive and integrated field placement component. With each course in the professional education sequence, students are placed in local schools and community placements where they apply what is learned on campus. These experiences provide Hope students with the opportunity to develop and practice professional competencies and dispositions. At least 120 clinical hours are spent in a wide range of settings prior to the student teaching semester.

What Hope Students Say...

"One of my favorite aspects of Hope's Education Department is the integration of field placements into education courses. Because of my experience in real classrooms, interacting with students and observing a mentor teacher, I know that I am well-prepared for my upcoming semester as a student teacher. Field placements have provided me with several opportunities to practice the skills I have learned in my education courses...

...so I am both confident in my abilities and aware of the areas I need to refine. I am so excited to continue to build relationships with students and to grow into the teacher that Hope College has helped me become!"

"After graduating from Hope and teaching for a few years, I look back at the sheer amount of field placements and the wealth of experience they brought me and I can't pinpoint a more worthwhile aspect of my preparation. There's no substitute for experience and there's no shortage of them at Hope!"
