Course Description

 

The field placement is a critical component of Education 225, Exceptional Child, and provides opportunities for interaction with persons with sensory, emotional, physical, and/or cognitive challenges, as well as gifted and talented and/or at-risk individuals. The field placement allows for the application of knowledge and theory, provides opportunity for the development of professional skills in real-life settings and guides in the selection of teaching as a profession.

 

Guidelines

  • You are expected to spend a minimum of two hours a week in the selected setting for a total of 22 hours.
  • Your duties and responsibilities must be discussed with your supervisor at the beginning of the placement. They will vary depending on the skills and experience you bring to the setting. ACTIVE INVOLVEMENT IS EXPECTED!!

  • Get written permission from supervisor/teacher before taking any pictures.
  • Represent yourself and the college in a professional manner. This means that you will be present and on time for each scheduled visit. Check with your supervisor on appropriate dress.
  • Contact your supervisor PRIOR to the placement if you are ill. Absences need to be made up for full credit.
  • It is your responsibility to give the evaluation form (with dates and hours filled in) to your supervisor a week or two before the end of the semester. Supervisors will send them to the Education Department or you can hand-deliver it. Incompletes will be given if the evaluation is not submitted, as it must be a part of your application to the Education Department.
