Direction for
creating a PDF file in the Library Techlab:
PDF files, or Portable Document
Format files, are a great way to save documents that need to be
scanned in to Chalk and Wire. Here is some information on how to make
PDF files and put them into your Chalk and Wire account.
Advantages of PDF’s:
- PDF’s
take up less disk space than other ways of saving scanned documents. This
will allow them to load faster in Chalk and Wire.
- PDF’s
allow for an effective way of displaying multiple page documents that are scanned in to the computer.
Disadvantages of PDF’s:
- The
person using the PDF must have a viewer to read them. (The viewer is a
free download that many computers already have).
- They
take more time to create than other ways of saving scanned documents.
Creating a PDF File:
- In the
Techlab open up Adobe Acrobat from the start menu.
- After
the program has loaded put the first page of your document face down on
the scanner glass.
- In the
program under the file menu select import. Under the import menu select the
HP 3500 series scanner.
- Select
if your document is one sided or two and press Ok.
- Wait
for the scanner to warm up. It will do a preview scan of your document. If
the scan looks like what you want press accept, if not reposition your
document on the scanner glass and press preview again until you get an
acceptable preview.
- The
scanner will then scan the document in PDF format. When it is done it will ask you for the next page. Place the
next page on the scanner glass, press next, and repeat the step above. If
you are done press Cancel.
- When
you have scanned all or your pages in go to Save As under the File menu.
Name your document and save it to a location where you can easily find it.
