Direction for
creating a image file in the Library Techlab:
Image files, either
in JPEG or GIF format, are another great way to save documents that need
to be scanned in to Chalk and Wire. Here is some information on how to create
image files and put them into your Chalk and Wire account.
Advantages of Image files:
- Images have the highest quality
graphics, useful if you have large color photographs or charts in your
document.
- Images are the most universally accepted
format, easily opening in a web browser without any additional software.
- Images are scanned
natively, making them very quick and easy to create.
Disadvantages of PDF’s:
- Each
image only represents one page, so documents with more than one page
require multiple image files.
- Images
can be large if not resized properly.
Creating an image file from a scanned document:
- In the
Techlab, place your image facedown on the scanner and press the scanning
button (second from the left on the front of the scanner).
- Wait
for the scanner to warm up. It will do a preview scan of your document. If
the scan looks like what you want press accept, if not reposition your
document on the scanner glass and press preview again until you get an
acceptable preview.
- After
pressing accept, your image will be scanned and
the HP Photo and Imaging gallery will open. Select your image from the thumbnails
displayed and click the “Image Editor” button in the upper left.
- Your
image will now be displayed in the Image
Editor. You can rotate it by
clicking the rotate button on the right.
Then click the rotate buttons on the left until the image appears
correctly in the preview, and press OK.
- If you
are displaying this image in Chalk & Wire, you will want to resize it.
- Click
the resize button on the right.
- In
the left column, change “units” to “pixels.”
- Make
sure width is no more than 800.
- Make
sure “Keep original proportion” is checked.
- Press
OK
- When
you are done, select “Save As” from the file menu.
- If
your document is fairly simple (few colors, only simple pictures) change
“Save as Type” to “GIF File”
- If
your document is fairly complex (many colors, detailed pictures) change
“Save as Type” to “JPEG File.”
Move the compression slider to a point between halfway and ¾ to
the right.
- Choose
a folder to save the file to and click “Save.”
