Important Dates & Deadlines

 

**MICHIGAN BASIC SKILLS TEST**

One of the requirements to being admitted into the Teacher Education Program
is to take & pass the Michigan Basic Skills Test
.   

**Recommend taking test when you are enrolled inED 220/221-Educational Psychology & prior to taking:  ED 225/226 - Exceptional Child  

*** the State offers the test five times during the year (once in each of the
following months - July, October, November, January, and April) -  see their website for registration/test dates:
www.mttc.nesinc.com

 

**APPLY TO THE TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM**

(Apply to the Teacher Education Program while enrolled in ED225/226 – Exceptional Child)

By 1st Friday in October - Fall Semester

By 1st Friday in March - Spring Semester

Late or incomplete applications will NOT be accepted.

**MICHIGAN TEST FOR TEACHER CERTIFICATION**

Students must take/pass Michigan Tests for Teacher Certification in major and minor areas of study (required for certification). It is recommended that a student enroll for these tests prior to certification. Most major/minor coursework should be completed. Objectives for all tests and sample test questions are available on-line at www.mttc.nesinc.com.

 

**APPLY FOR PERMISSION TO STUDENT TEACH**

Apply for permission to student teach:

     By 1st Friday in November

                   for those planning to student teach
               Fall Semester of final year

     By 1st Friday in March

                  for those planning to student teach
              Spring Semester of final year

 

**CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK/FINGERPRINTING**

All education students are required to have a criminal background check that involves fingerprinting prior to student teaching (in August for Fall semester student teachers and December for Spring semester student teachers).

**FIRST AID/CPR TRAINING**

Adult/Child CPR and First Aid Certification are required by the Michigan Department of Education for all teacher education candidates at the time of their recommendation to the State Department for a teaching certificate. Hope College offers two certification sessions each academic year for upper level education students. The certification completed on campus is valid for two years.
