TRANSFER STUDENTS

NON-TRADITIONAL STUDENTS WITHOUT A DEGREE
If you wish to find out what previous general education course work will transfer, you will need to bring/send a copy of your transcript to the Registrar's Office. You should also make an appointment to see the Education Department Chairperson to discuss the program and answer questions you might have. If no previous course work:
This student will enter the sequence when room is available in beginning courses just like all traditional students in our program. AFTER beginning course work at Hope College, the student MUST submit an application to the Teacher Education program.If transferring in with 6 semesters yet to complete:
(Sophomore status) There is usually no problem in entering the mainstream of courses. Students usually take core and major courses in the first semester at Hope College. The student must meet all of the requirements for admission to the Department. AFTER beginning course work at Hope College, the student MUST submit an application to the Teacher Education program.If transferring in as Junior status or above:
The following sequence of courses would be no different from those traditional students at Hope who make late (in their Junior year) decisions to pursue a teaching certificate. The student must meet all of the requirements for admission to the Department. , AFTER beginning course work at Hope College, the student MUST submit an application.
ELEMENTARY EDUCATION:
Probably will need five semesters, four in education courses:First Semester -All education classes are usually closed to late enrollment Second Semester
ED 220/221 and 225/226 if an appeal is submitted and approved for permission to take both courses. Third Semester ED280/281-Literacy I and other courses that prepare for a major and generalist knowledge useful for teaching children. Fourth Semester ED282/283--Literacy II, ED310/311/312--Curriculum and Methods. This is a very demanding semester, requiring two separate placements and collaborative and research expectations in both courses in addition to major/minor/core requirements. Fifth Semester Perspectives in Education, Senior Seminar, Student Teaching SECONDARY EDUCATION:

Third Semester ED285/286/287--Secondary Block Fourth Semester ED360/361-Principles and Methods, ED___ Secondary Methods in Major/Minor Fifth Semester Perspectives in Education, Senior Seminar, Student Teaching SPECIAL EDUCATION:
This is a major and requires both course work in professional/pedagogical studies and for the Special Education endorsement. An individual conference MUST be scheduled with a Special Education advisor to plan the program.NON-TRADITIONAL STUDENTS WITH A COMPLETED DEGREE
Our teacher education program was designed for the traditional student. We do not offer a fast track for completing teacher education requirements. Therefore, students will need to complete Level I, II and III in sequenced order. A master's in education at a sponsoring institution is recommended for candidates who wish to complete teacher education requirements in a shorter time frame.
Degree granted from Hope College:
The official transcript will be reviewed by the Director of Certification to determine courses that will count toward certification in the major/minor fields. There is no fee to review transcripts for Hope graduates. A written proposed schedule will be offered by the Director of Certification for following the Education course sequence (Levels I, II, and III) in professional and pedagogical studies.Degree granted from another institution:

A written proposed schedule will be offered by the Director of Certification for following the Education course sequence in professional and pedagogical studies. If the student decides not to enter Hope's education sequence, the $25.00 will be returned.WHAT TO DO NEXT:
Materials to be sent to the Director of Certification:1. A letter describing intent and needs.
2. Completed Teacher Education /Certification Form
3. A check for $25.00 if not a Hope graduate (make payable to Hope College).
