Quote for the Unit: "Those of you who hoped that I would stand here tonight and reveal the "true" ending, the "right" interpretation of the ending, will be disappointed. There isn't one. There's a right one for each of us, and it depends on our own beliefs, our own hopes." |

Unit
One: Adolescent Learners Theory Connections and Contexts for Learning |
The
Focus of this unit will be to examine the nature of Adolescence
as a period in human development that is most characteristic of the middle
and high school learners. Adolescence has been studied from many perspectives,
revealing growth stages, emotional needs, and behaviors that can have
significant impact on what learning is accomplished in the classroom.
We'll take a LOOK at the brain which is the central tool for learning! The Guiding Question for this unit is...Who is the Adolescent Learner? What are the typical strengths and challenges in my content area? We will conduct class time in the format of a Learning Community. Vygotsky promoted the belief that knowledge and understanding (knowing) is constructed in the process of people working together to solve the problems that arise in the course of shared activity. This is the process of developing meaning which leads to learning! |
