Quote for the Unit: A creative teacher is one who has first acquired the necessary skills to practice the science of instruction and who continues to refine and supplement those skills in such a way as to capitalize on his/her own personal strengths, those unique qualities of the learners, and the individual features of the teaching/learning environment in which students and teachers find themselves.

The fourth unit in the Secondary Block examines ways to design instruction for the purpose of meeting the needs of diverse learners--Differentiated Instruction. You will begin to build your abilty to perform as a Curriculum Developer--becoming a learning facilitator.

The BIG IDEA for this unit is....What are some patterns to follow when delivering instruction?

The Guiding Questions for Unit Four are...

How do I organize my lessons to ensure that I engage learners?
How do successful teachers hook and hold their learners' attention?
What's more important? Knowing your content or knowing your students?
Do teachers' behaviors really speak louder than words?
What are the principles of differentiated instruction?

One of the "formative" goals of this unit is that you will begin to develop confidence in recognizing ways in which instructional formats can encourage active learning and increase student achievement among all learners.
