instructions for creating a T-Chart format for the Teaching Seminar
You are going to create a table format for communicating the lesson plan/design for your teaching seminar. (Click here to find examples of how this lesson design format was used for some of our Block class sessions.)
You may create the T-Chart table using WORD program, or some similar word-processing system. The following instructions are for WORD.
1. You are going to create two tables-- 1) the first table will be one column and eight rows for describing your Pre-Design: Formulating Your Rationale for Instruction; 2) the second table will be four columns, and multiple rows to design and script your plan of instruction.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING TABLES: In WORD click on TABLE in the top task bar. A menu will drop down and you will click "Insert" and then Table. Another menu will drop down and you will select the number of columns and rows, then click OK. (Another way is to click on the table icon to the right of the middle of the second task bar (icon looks like a tiny table). From the icon, the table menu asking for number of columns and rows will be immediately visible. Same procedure.)
2. Once you have the second table created, you can then adjust the size of the columns by putting the cursor on the top row, right line of the column you wish to adjust. A double line with little arrows going to the right and to the left will appear, You will hold the left mouse button down and a dotted line will appear. Holding the mouse button down you can drag the column width to any size you wish. Then you can type in your text. (Use a 10 font and it won't take as much room/paper.)
3. Label the columns as follows:

4. You will have plenty of time to plan this lesson that you will deliver to your colleagues. Don't wait until the last minute to do the planning. This is a summative "performance" assessment for Units 4 and 5 and is worth 100 points--The largest point value in the course! Mary and I will serve as "Lesson Design Coaches" to help your Base Group get organized and to help you understand the T-Chart lesson plan format.
5. At least a week before you are to teach your plan, you will submit your lesson plan electronically for me so that I can give you feedback and help you "polish" your delivery. I want you to be successful in the "Real World" experience in planning and teaching.
6. You will
send me your group's T-chart via attachment on e-mail. I will assess your plan
and insert feedback as needed, and then will send it back directly to all the
teaching seminar group members.
You can submit your T-chart to me by sending an attachment on the Hope webmail
system. You "create" an e-mail message to me and before sending, click
on the "attach" button. This will bring up two boxes. Click on the
"Browse" button and a screen will come up for "File Upload."
Be sure you have "Files of Type:" box at the bottom of the screen
with "All Files" indicated. You will select the drive where your lesson
plan is saved (probably A drive), and then highlight the file you are going
to send me, then click on "Open." This will put the file name in the
Attachment Filename box. Click on the "Add File" button and the file
will automatically move down to the "Attached Files" box. Click OK
in the upper left orange task bar at the top. This will attach the lesson plan
to the e-mail, then you can send it to me.
When I send it back to you, you will click on the attached file, save it to your disk, and then read it, or print it out, in WORD.
7. You will revise your T-Chart and provide a copy to me before you teach your lesson. I will use your T-Chart to "track" your lesson and assemble my feedback for your final evaluation in this effort. Copies of all your handouts and any visual representations you use (PowerPoint, overheads) will need to be turned in also for thoroughness in giving feedback.
