On Saturday, April 8th, the Hope College Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (www.nsbe.org) was dedicated. The NSBE mission statement is:

To increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.

Mr. Carl Mack, the executive director of the National Society of Black Engineers attended the event and presented Ms. Erika Howell with the chapter charter certificate. The Grand Valley NSBE chapter attended the event as well as several family members and faculty from Hope College.

Mr. Mack praised the students for showing the initiative to create this chapter at Hope College. He urged the students to focus on studies in order to be successful in college and be active in the local schools in order to be role models for the children in order to serve the mission of the NSBE.

We would like to congratulate the NSBE members! It was their idea to bring NSBE to Hope College and they have worked very hard to make this dream a reality!
