ENGS 364 - Steel Structures

Course Description
This course will investigate the design of steel structures using the AISC Steel Construction Manual. We will begin by examining the fundamental properties of steel used for building construction and the implications of hot rolling on residual stresses. Next, we will examine the bending moment capacity for fully-supported and partially supported beams. The influence of stability on flexural capacity will also be addressed. Students will learn how to analyze the capacity of composite beams that include contributions from reimforced concrete floor slabs. Columns and column design for single elements and frame systems will also be addressed. Finally, we will learn design and analysis procedures for bolted connections.
