Navigation & Radio Display Console

Howard Fitzgerald
The Automotive Navigational and Radio Console is designed to hold both a hand-held GPS and a hand-held Radio in such a position that they would be easily readable to the driver of the vehicle. The device is also intended to provide additional help in stowing gear, a comfortable armrest, and is portable in the event that the operator must change vehicles or operate the device in various locations.
This device was developed to fulfill a need for a device to help organize the contents of an operator's vehicle and keep vital equipment visible and within easy reach. This need was observed when members of West Michigan Search & Rescue were on field exercises and found it difficult to sort through all the miscellaneous gear strewn about the car for the desired devices while operating the vehicle. It was also noticed that this problem developed further when SAR team members were required to change vehicles quickly and would either be delayed sorting through gear, or would forget vital equipment.
The uses for the Automotive Navigational and Radio Console is not narrowed to Search & Rescue applications, but fills a similar need for a variety of service personnel. Everyone from Emergency Services to off duty Fire and Police can use this device to help keep their vehicle in order while providing the use of vital equipment at their fingertips and maintaining safe driving conditions. Its easy portability permits the device to be stored in the backseat or trunk and is ready to go just by unzipping and plugging in the power adapter. When not in use, the console zips up like a regular top open duffel bag and gives unwanted intruders no indication of the contents inside. The Automotive Navigational and Radio Console is truly a piece of state of the art equipment that no service personnel should be without.
