| "I accomplished a lot during Writer’s Camp—more
than I expected to accomplish. The space was perfect and our group
was
diverse and very easy to be with all week."
"I completed most of a first draft of an article for an education
journal. I also did research for the
literature review, which I always put off writing. The environment
of the camp allowed me to focus on the literature review and not
be distracted by summer life at home."
"Hoping you will have it again next year and that my schedule will
allow me to attend - phenomenal! Best thing I've done for my work
recently."
"It’s easy for big projects to get stuck behind lots
of short-term higher priorities. This lets some middle-of-the-stack-but-essential-for-the-long-term
priorities rise to the top." |
"The projects moved forward nicely
from the start of Writing Camp to the end, but have not moved since,
other than to sit in the middle of the to-do list without rising
to the top. For me the great value of writing camp was to get them
from the middle to the top for a solid week during the summer,
so they can remain as viable projects."

"The research literature review that I worked on
last summer has turned into a larger study than I first imagined.
I have asked Cindy Taggart, Professor and Chair of Music Education
at MSU, to work with me on the study. We are working towards gathering
data this spring and analyzing the data and writing again next
summer. I loved the writing workshop--it was an extremely useful
and fruitful time for me and I have expressed this to both my chair
and dean. As we get further with this project, I will keep you
posted. This is a research study that is a huge undertaking, but
the foundation of writing that I did last summer is an excellent
start and enticed a colleague to join me! Cindy also has asked
for the help of at least six graduate students on this project--it
should be fun.

"I worked on two articles this summer at writing
camp (and one unrelated article that has recently been accepted
as well!). "Creating Diversity in a Baccalaureate Nursing
Program: A Case Study" has been accepted into the International
Journal of Nursing Education Scholarship with publication scheduled
for the Jan/Feb issue. The second article I have been asked to
revise and resubmit to Nursing Outlook which is also a peer reviewed
journal. The revisions are fairly minor and the reviews were positive/helpful.
I presented the first paper at a conference this summer and used
part of same paper in a grant proposal with GVSU to secure a $6,000
mini-grant focused on increasing the retention of minority nursing
students. The grant was funded by the State of Michigan. So, I
would say that one week of writing camp was extrememly successful!
Thanks again for running the camp."

"I am planning on submitting my book proposal at the beginning
of the year...having the dedicated time to work on a writing project
was INVALUABLE. I will keep plugging away at it so that you can have
proof, other than my testimony, of how helpful it was to me. Now
if I can just find dedicated time during the semester....:)"

"I finished, at long last, that project on Austria
that I was working on last summer and was reminded of our writing
camp lunches and Haiku exercise. My intro may not be Haiku, but
it was very likely inspired by it."
