Stephenson Prize in First-Year Writing

The English Department offers a prize for the best expository essay written in an English 113 class each semester.

• Essays must be submitted with the approval of an instructor by 5:00p on Monday, December 1, 2008.
  
• Essays should be 2-6 pages.
  
• A committee consisting of three readers will select the winner.
  
• The prize will be a $50 gift certificate at the Hope-Geneva Bookstore.

NOTE:
Every professor teaching a section of English 113 should encourage at least one student to submit at least one paper. If you have questions about whether or not you should submit, please ask your 113 instructor.
Papers from the previous semester that missed that semester’s deadline may be submitted as well.

Submissions for the Fall 2008 prize are due by 5:00 p.m., Monday, December 1.

The winner will be announced Monday, December 8.
