Stephenson Prize in First-Year Writing

Each semester, the English department offers a prize for the best expository essay written in an English 113 course.

• Essays must be submitted with the approval of an instructor by 12:00 pm on Monday, December 2, 2013.
• Essays should be 4-6 pages.
• A committee consisting of three readers will select the winner.
• The prize will be a $50 gift certificate at the Hope-Geneva Bookstore.

Submissions for the Fall 2013 prize are due by 12 pm on Monday, December 2.

The winner will be announced around December 9.

Every professor teaching a section of English 113 should encourage at least one student to submit at least one paper. If a student has questions about whether or not to submit, please discuss options with him/her.

Papers from the previous semester that missed that semester’s deadline may be submitted as well.
