Oak Ridge Science Semester

The Oak Ridge Science Semester (ORSS) program is an off-campus program available to Hope College science students. Participants earn 16 credits towards their major during a fall semester in residence at the Department of Energy Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Total credits include 4 credits for completion of an upper-level course in the student’s major discipline, 4 credits for successful participation in an interdisciplinary science seminar, and 8 credits of research. Cutting-edge research is performed with one or more ORNL staff scientists, in one of many research groups representing the various disciplines of biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, environmental science, geology, physics, and a multitude of interdisciplinary combinations. This exciting program is administered by Denison University. For more information, contact Dr. Jonathan Peterson, Hope College Representative for the ORSS program (peterson@hope.edu), and also check out the ORSS homepage at
