Overview:
This course is an introduction to the scientific study
of
the planet on which we live. This course emphasizes the study of the
major Earth
systems (atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere and geosphere) and the
interactions
between them. Attention is given to the subject of environmental change
and the
implications for our future. This course is one possible introduction
to the geology
major. No prerequisites. One or two Saturday morning field trips are
required.
Cross-listed as GEMS 157. A student may not receive credit for both
GEMS
157/GES100 and GES 110.
