Reaching Beyond the Borders of Hope: Advancing Biomedical Research and Science Education at Hope College

Our Program Goals: Hope College has worked hard to achieve the goals of its 2004 HHMI program. Standing on this firm foundation, we are ready to set out in new, more outwardly focused directions. Our goals for the new program are:

To reach beyond Hope to the growing biomedical community to train future biomedical scientists and do excellent biomedical research;
To reach beyond Hope to the regional K-12 science and mathematics community in order to improve K-12 science education;
To reach beyond Hope to increase diversity in science;
To reach beyond Hope and build on our strength as an innovator in classroom and laboratory science teaching by making significant and much-needed contributions to the knowledge base of “scientific teaching.”

Hope College has established a strong core of collaborative scientific research and curricular programs in which Hope faculty and undergraduate students work side-by-side to tackle complex, interdisciplinary, real-world problems. We are prepared to build on this excellence and extend these endeavors beyond the borders of Hope into the Broader West Michigan scientific community and beyond.
