Guidelines for Paper Assignments

  1. General

    1. Length: five typed pages (meaning five full pages) with standard margins, except Braveheart paper, which should be 2-3 pages.

    2. Due date: Papers are due at the beginning of the class for which the source is scheduled to be discussed. If submitted later the grade will be reduced.

    3. Citations:

      1. You can use any of the standard methods of citation (see New St. Martin's Handbook).

      2. For papers based on docpacs:

        1. If an author, title and/or date is listed for the source, give these and then note where it appears (thus:The London Gazette, Sept. 2, 1666, in "Plague and Fire," p. 11).
        2. If nothing is listed for the source, simply identify where it appears in the docpac (e.g., "Peasant's Rebellion," p. 3).

      3. For the Magna Carta paper, use paragraph numbers.

  2. Specific papers: see separate pages for each of the four papers.
