Overview Guidelines Goals and Objectives Part I Part II Part III

COURSE POLICIES

  • Grading

    • No incomplete will be given except according to College policy, namely, "only when unusual circumstances beyond the control of the student prevent giving a specific grade." This implies earlier course requirements, e.g., exams or papers have been completed satisfactorily.

    • Graduating seniors, if they have an A or a B in the course may, if they so wish, skip the third examination.

  • Examinations and Papers

Exams will be given only when scheduled, and papers are due by their deadline, unless

    • an unexpected emergency occurs, and

    • you inform me of this orally and before the exam or deadline:

        395-7589 (office)
        395-7590 (History Secretary)
        392-4727 (home)

  • Attendance

    • The student is responsible for all material presented in class, including lectures, discussion, visual materials, and dropped hints.

    • Regular class attendance is expected. Where appropriate, participation is also expected. Substantial nonattendance renders a student liable to having his or her grade lowered.

  • Academic Integrity

Read in the Hope College Catalog, pp. 77-78.

The statement therein assumes a covenant relationship between instructors and students. Elements of this covenant include not only common expectations about academic honesty, but a joint agreement to perform at our best. As with all covenants there is, therefore, an expectation of mutual responsibility and mutual blessing.
