Guidelines for Examinations



  1. length: about two typed pages per question


  2. organization


    1. introductory statement: hypothesis


    2. argument: series of generalizations followed by specifics


    3. strong conclusion


  3. procedures


    1. A list of questions will be made available to the class before each exam.


    2. Part I of the exam will consist of two questions from that list, both of which must be answered.


    3. Part II will consist of three questions, one of which must be answered.


    4. Due: In my mailbox at the History Department office by

      3:00 PM (Feb. 6 and March 10 exams)

      4:00 PM (April 28 exam).
