International Internships

Hope Affiliated Programs
The International Education Office at Hope College has several programs that offer an international internship experience while abroad. Students considering an international internship are encouraged to pursue opportunities through the following Hope affiliated programs:

  • GlobaLinks
  • CIEE
  • IES
  • Central College Abroad
  • SIT

Applications and detailed descriptions of programs are available from the Fried International Center in the Martha Miller Center or you can email studyabroad@hope.edu with any questions.

Non Hope Affiliated Programs
To earn credit for an international internship experience that is not affiliated with a Hope approved program please follow the steps below. It is strongly recommended that you begin the process at least 5 months prior to your internship start date.

INTERNATIONAL INTERNSHIP APPROVAL PROCESS

STEP 1 – Submit Application

Submit an Off Campus Study Application and the International Internship Form to the Internship Coordinator in the Career Development Center.

STEP 2 – Wait for Approval

Your application will be reviewed by the International Education Office, Dean of Students and Registrar. You will be notified by the Career Development Center on the status of your application.

STEP 3 – Submit Risk and Responsibility Forms

If approved, complete the following risk and responsibility forms found here under the “International Two or More Nights Programs” section and return them to the appropriate contact listed.

  • Assumption of Risk and Release
  • Eligibility to Participate
  • Medical and Mental Health Form
  • Student off Campus Responsibility Form
  • Internship Housing Form

REMEMBER TO CONTACT THE HEALTH CENTER FOR IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING REQUIRED IMMUNIZATIONS FOR INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL!

STEP 4 – Register for Academic Credit

Submit the Academic Internship Registration Form to the Registrar’s Office in order to officially register for course credit.

STEP 5 – Attend Study Abroad Orientation Session

Attend a study abroad orientation session through the International Education Office.
