The kinesiology department is comprised of the majors of athletic training, exercise science, and physical education. The department also offers minors in health education, exercise science and kinesiology and well as the offering of the health dynamics academic programs.  It also oversees the inter-collegiate athletic and club and intramural sports programs.

The department operates three laboratories for learning and research, including labs dedicated to human anatomy, exercise physiology and biomechanics.

  • You can pursue fieldwork and internships with local physical therapists, physicians, sports medicine clinics, high school and collegiate sports teams, professional sports organizations, campus, health clubs, corporate wellness departments, and a variety of educational placements.
  • Hope offers great athletic facilities, including the Dow Center, the Ekdal J. Buys Athletic ComplexDeWitt Tennis Center, Lugers Fieldhouse, and Van Andel Soccer Stadium. The DeVos Fieldhouse, completed in 2005, offers a state-of-the-art venue for both sports and study.
  • Most faculty members are teachers and coaches. Four department faculty members have received National Coach of the Year Awards, and four have received teaching awards.
