I am currently a Ph.D. candidate
in Second Language Studies at Michigan State University, and I expect
to finish my doctoral study in the near future. For more than 15
years, I have taught Chinese and English in various instructional
settings to learners of different levels and cultural backgrounds.
Besides language classes, I have taught content classes such as
Second Language Learning Theories and Linguistics. During my professional
career, I have also worked as test developer, writing consultant,
thesis adviser, and internship supervisor.
My research has revolved around form-focused instruction,
that is, how linguistic forms can be optimally learned in meaningful
communication. Within the paradigm of form-focused instruction,
I have investigated how the effectiveness of corrective feedback
is moderated by learner-internal factors such as working memory
and language analytic ability as well as learner-external factors
such as the nature of the linguistic structure and explicitness/implicitness
of learning conditions. My work has appeared in refereed journals
on second language acquisition.
