STUDENT-FACULTY RESEARCHback to the June 2004 frontpage Two Macalester majors, juniors EESHANI KANDPAL and DHURVA JAISHANKAR, have been awarded Keck Summer Science Collaborative Research grants to pursue independent projects at archaeological projects sponsored by the College. Eeshani will be working on problems of architectural reconstruction at the excavations of a Roman Temple under the direction of Professor ANDY OVERMAN at Omrit, Israel. Dhurva will be working with JOSEPH RIFE on problems of taphonomy and archaeological formation processes in the study of human skeletal remains in chamber tombs at Kenchreai. At Hope College, HENRY GOULD is working this summer with JOHN QUINN on a project
to collect and translate documents & letters written in Coptic by women.
The team hopes to have the material on-line before the end of the year. This
effort to make available material from late antique/early medieval Egypt is
assisted by a grant to the college from Mrs. Norman Vincent Peale. Henry is
a major in both Mathematics and Creative Writing, but is an enthusiast for all
things Egyptological. He studied Coptic at Hope, and participated in Beloit
College's study-trip to Egypt last winter. |
