You and the 4 BCC continue pushing towards Worm. German forces seem to be withdrawing. The units directly to the north are now out of contact, and seem to have been units of the Stu.Pio.
You have combined arms groups in 12.16, 13.18, 16.18, 17.19 and 17.20. The unit at 13.18 was taken under heavy fire from Germans in 12.18. You also maneuvering against Germans in 16.19, whom you have seriously outnumbered right now.
So while there is still fighting, it seems that the Germans are pulling back.
You organize your defense as ordered. You have a line approximately 2.19 - 5.18 - 6.18 - 6.16. Germans are apparently still 250m to the north of your positions.
6 GRDI is coming in behind you and crowding you, causing some confusion.
You hear the sounds of a firefight to the East, MGs and cannons by the sounds of it.

You try to move to the positions indicated, but 3/205 is still occupying the ground, so you are only able to get to hexrow xx.16 or so. Your units are in contact, resulting in some confusion, but no panic or friendly fire (fortunately!) Let's just hope that 3/205 doesn't try to retreat through your position...
You hear sounds of fighting to the east, MG fire and cannons.
1-2/205 and 4 BCC are still fighting their way to Worm, but apparently the Germans are pulling back.
3/205 has ceased advancing and is holding right now.
6 GRDI is backing them up (supposedly).
Your spotter don't see anything. They are currently in 30.15 and 19.16 (still moving).
Your reinforcements will be coming on next turn! Here is the message I sent the commanders suggesting a reorganization of command:
To: LtCs. Monnet, Ghesquieres and Raffin
From: Lee
Re: Command Shakedown
Gentlemen,
As GM, I'd like to keep each commander operating in only one part of the battlefield. In conjunction with Flavigny, I assigned the initial commands as they are now:
| Raffin | 3/205, 1-2/45 BCC |
| Ghesq. | 4 BCC, 3/39 BCC |
| Monnet | 1-2/205, 3/45 BCC |
> I) Reinforcements move thru woods west of Primary Hwy -
> "La Grange au Mont" - worm picking up our 205 RI and
> 4 BBC and destroying any enemy encountered.
> II) At Worm we will split into 3 groups.
> A) Eagle = 1/67, 1-2/205, 45BBC - will clear woods along
> "Bois de la Grande Cote" thru Huffes d'Ogne if
> necessary. Once contact is made Eagle will pin enemy
> to allow Falcon & Vulture time to maneuver to support
> and crush (commd. 45th BBC).
> B) Falcon = 3/205 - 3rd co. 45 BBC, 4 BBC (command 3/205)
> Support Eagle to North - looping to North and in
> towards "Huffe d'Ogne" on west side of Rd. #3.
> C) Vulture = 6th GRDI, 49 BBC (Commd. 49 BBC).
> Jump off from Worm earlier (?) move thru La Vivier
> looping further N thru open terrain crossing Rd. #3.
> and coming down on Huffe screening left side.
What I suggest is that we switch the commands as follows:
| A) Eagle | |
|---|---|
| Monnet: | 1-2/205, 2-45 BCC |
| B-Bossu: | 1/67 RI, 1-45 BCC |
| B) Falcon | |
| Raffin: | 3/205, 3-45 BCC, 4 BCC |
| C) Vulture | |
| Monnet | 6 GRDI |
| Ghesq. | 3-49 BCC |
This is a PROPOSAL, and I wanted to present it to you before any action was taken to see if this fits with your preferences or not. Please let me know if it's agreeable, or how you would rather it be handled.
Once this is sorted out, we'll need new orders for 0800, because the reinforcements are arriving!
I have some standby players, so we could also add someone to take either 3/205 + 4 BCC or 3-45 BCC, if Raffin prefers.
Lee
Your units are now all established in their ordered positions. Your remaining StG III's w/infantry have moved back out in front of Stonne, having not received any instructions to the contrary. No contact and no air attack this turn, as French planes seemed to be interdicting roads rather than striking your positions.
Your reserve company is still getting organized.
Your IGs are deployed about 2/3 in line, the rest in reserve.
Were you going to send some to II/GD? I don't have any official instructions on file, so let me know if I missed it.
Nothing new to report. Your units are in their ordered positions, working on their next operational plans. 4/II/8 is around Candrieres, but is preparing to move out with new orders to procede to Huttes. This leaves your men feeling a bit exposed and abandoned, though no threat has yet developed on your flank.
As I said, if I don't hear from you soon, I'll have to turn your command over to another player (which I would rather not do) so drop me a line. If you're off-line right now and your unit disappears on you, I'll set you up with another reinforcing German group or something.
You begin to withdraw as ordered. You are under some pressure, and you can hear firing from your units, but have not received any reports yet as to what it all means. 9th co. has consolidated into a tight defense of the road with all guns forward. They feel confident of being able to repulse a frontal assault, but their flanks are vulnerable now. Too much space for too few troops. Isn't that always the story?
Your other companies will report when they have a chance.
I/GD has completed defensive preparations in Stonne and is commencing digging in.
II/GD has not submitted a report.
III/GD is withdrawing as much as allowed (not much, since they are still under attack orders) and seems hard pressed.
Stu.Pio. have withdrawn and are reorganizing, you're not sure exactly where.
4/II/8 has not begun the move to Huttes yet.
Ah, the joys of command, eh?
Your units continue their withdrawl in good order, and estimate arrival at their indicated jump-off positions in about 10-20 minutes. You are not being pursued as far as you can tell, though you are still in motion and are not scouting as much as you would like. You estimate that in 2 turns you will have a passible defensive formation set up (though still without an implemented opsheet).
You do hear sounds of a firefight coming from III/GD area.
Your tanks are still gearing up for their move. Tanks have to be refueled, one got stuck off road and had to be towed back, maps are being distributed, etc. In short, you haven't made your dr yet :-)
French planes seem to be patrolling the main road to Huttes. Good thing you didn't move out that way this turn!
