About German 325

Course

We'll be watching, studying, talking and writing about recent German films. This course is in a 'blended' format: we meet only one hour a week face to face, and do other communication outside class via various media.

Book

We will be using Cinema for German Conversation which is available at the Hope/Geneva Bookstore.Naturally you can find it at Amazon or online as well.

You are also expected to have access to a decent dictionary and a Grammar of German.

Tests/Quizzes

There will be periodic vocabulary quizzes at times indicated on the syllabus, as well as a midterm and comprehensive final.

Homework

There will be several types of homework:

  • Chat - you will chat using whatever chat program you like with a fellow student, save the transcript and email it to me.
  • Milling online - you will answer audio questions on the computer via computer mic (you'll need to procure one!)
  • Tagebuch - you'll hand write answers in a bluebook or some other small paper notebook to turn in.
  • Blog - you'll post your assignment to a blog that fellow students will respond to and/or comment on.
  • Lektüre - you'll answer reading questions and email them to me.
  • Zum Inhalt - you'll type up comprehension questions on the movies and print them out to bring to class.

Your grade in the course will be based on the following scale:

  • 30% Midterm and final
  • 35% Homework
  • 25% Quizzes and unit tests
  • 10% Class performance
